Renault set to get hearts racing
The Alpine A110-50 may not be the snappiest titled car in the world but it sure is shaping up to be one of the most desirable
A brief history lesson: The Alpine A110 (also known as the Berlinette) was a handy little sports car produced in the early ‘60s that featured mostly Renault parts. It also went on to tear up the Monte Carlo Rally in the ‘70s and continues to set tongues wagging today among classic car enthusiasts.
To celebrate the Berlinette’s 50th anniversary, Renault has decided to craft this very fine concept car, the A110-50 (see what they did with the digits?). This thoroughbred racer features a distinct lack of driving assistance (no ABS or traction control), a punchy 400bhp 3.5 liter V6 and the same taut chassis as the excellent Megane Trophy.
Don’t expect this curvaceous track carnivore to see the light of day anytime soon, but the design language reflects that of the recent Dezir Concept (hints of which have been seen in the upcoming Clio)- which could lead to a new Renault roadster in the future.
